The third annual Soccer Challenge hosted by The Indian Public School (TIPS) Coimbatore was one to remember. Our class, IB DP Year 1 were bestowed with the opportunity to organize the prestigious event, which includes over half a dozen participating schools, spanned over three days and included a bevy of trophies. The Soccer Challenge is for aspiring footballers aged 9-12 years to show off their skills while having a lot of fun doing so.

I was apart of the "Arrangements" team, My specific responsibility was to collect the team sheets from the match officials, locate the participating teams' head coaches, have them fill in their line-up and finally return them for the players to have their names announced.

With the Footballing extravaganza lasting the better part of three full days I often found myself facing long bouts of boredom, exhaustion and weariness. What kept me going was that the event was for a good cause. Our school was generous enough to donate a bag packed full of supplies to every participating child from an under-privileged school. The look of glee as these children opened up their gifts brought a smile to my face. This truly is what football is all about.

Regardless of the eventual winners; TIPS Coimbatore did sweep all the trophies, it has to be said, but putting that behind us, I can conclude that this event was a resounding success, as evidenced by the parent turnout, public reception and most importantly the look of satisfaction on the faces of the young players. The biggest takeaway is perhaps, regardless of who wins or loses, football brings together people of all backgrounds, economic statuses and regions to partake in an event the entire world can enjoy. For that single reason is why football is without a doubt the greatest sport on the planet.
